The Why

I started this venue for a couple of reasons. One is that there’s not a great education for those who want to enter — or are currently in —the public sector. We learn by doing. That’s a good thing but might as well accelerate the learning process. There are an unusually large number of urgent challenges on America’s plate at the moment. We need problem solvers.

The other reason: I wanted to carve out a place for smart dialogue, even debate, about social and political change—off social media. Disagreement, even among friends, is fine. But we can do it productively to shed light, not rage. We take building a community seriously. 

Public Arena only has one (beta) course at the moment but stay tuned for additional mini-courses, a weekly podcast, and future-looking briefing memos. Over time, my plan is to develop a membership model.
